Rust, resin or swarf build-up...

These are the things that us collet users dread.

If you’re a regular collet user, you will know just how important it is to protect your treasured tools from rust, resin and swarf. Not only can they shorten the lifespan of your valuable tools, but it can also lead to significant loss of precision, which is something that we all want to avoid.

At RTL, we understand just how important your tools are, which is why we only sell high precision dead size coated ER collets. What does this mean? Firstly dead size is that the collet will only fit one size of tool and is not a spilt range type.  Secondly, all our ER collet range is coated in a layer of corrosion protection which helps prevent and protects against rust, resin and swarf build-up.

What’s more, we don’t just apply this coating to the visible areas, we coat the entire collet in this protective layer.

Proven protection, designed to last

The image below demonstrates the difference between a collet that has been coated in a layer of corrosive protection and one that hasn’t. This was after only four months of ‘standard’ usage.

As you can see, the collet without a coating has been significantly affected by corrosion in a short time (only four months).

The results really do speak for themselves.

What are the benefits of working with coated collets?

Using coated collets such as ours can optimise your work in several ways, including:

Higher precision in the long term

It’s important to remember that corrosion, rust, resin or swarf build-up on your collets not only affects the collet itself, but also your entire system. A damaged collet will inhibit the precision of the machine, putting pressure on other areas and potentially causing damage to them.

When your collets are rust and corrosion free, the parts in your manufacturing system last longer, meaning the number of faulty parts decreases.

Extended lifespan

Due to the higher concentricity, your tools will last much longer. Thus, you save time thanks to reduced set-up and money due to replacing tools and parts less often.

Longer service life of the machine spindles

Using a collet with higher precision, means less imbalance on the tools. This relieves the machine spindle permanently, meaning your machine maintenance costs will be significantly reduced.

Less environmental impact

In addition to saving you money, having to replace parts less often will help cut your carbon footprint and reduce the amount of waste you create.

Conclusion

There are so many benefits of using coated collets. Not only can you ensure higher precision, but you can also extend the life of your tooling AND save money.
